Composer and Arranger

Bair, a member of ASCAP, has composed over twenty works for student string orchestra (published by Howard Publications in Maryland). In addition, Bair has arranged three Christmas Sing-Alongs for orchestra with audience participation (published by Theodore Presser) and has also composed and arranged many works for orchestra.

His composition “The Homefront 1944” was premiered in November 2022 by the Worthing Symphony Orchestra, Sussex, England, and was also performed by the Ealing Symphony, also in England. In this moving composition, Bair sets the text of a letter his Grandmother Bair wrote to her sister after her son (who would have been Sheldon Bair’s uncle) was declared Killed in Action.

Bair’s arrangement of William Grant Still’s “Here’s One” was performed in July 2024 by the Buffalo Philharmonic on the occasion of their Concert for Healing in the aftermath of the Tops Grocery Store shooting.

Bair’s arrangements of music pop standards, and the scores to his Christmas Sing Alongs, are available on his page at Sheet Music Plus. Bair has also composed anthems and cantatas for amateur church choirs.

"Sheldon' Bair's educational compositions reveal his solid experience, skill, and artistic understanding of the language of music.  His compositions are well crafted, meticulously edited, and delightful to play." - Bill Beachy, Howard Publications
